The Mad Cat is a playful matcha brand that blends premium tea with cute characters, making every cup feel fun and memorable.
The Design
The Mad Cat brings premium matcha to life with playful design and its lovable characters, Meecho and Machi, creating a fun and memorable tea experience.

Chaotic at Workplace Matcha, a tin packaging targeting ladies, with the iconic Meecho, our cat character design.

Instead of the usual minimal Japan branding for matcha, we chose a different path, merging Khmer culture with hojicha. It went far better than expected.

Outside box packaging for the tin inside, making it more engaging for unboxing.

Khmer x Hojicha, same packaging concept as Chaotic Matcha.

Not just matcha, every purchase comes with its own seasonal stickers.

Making more exposure for the brand, we custom-designed the paper bag, it looks good, and it's brandable too.

The Process
Before Meecho and Machi ended up on tins and stickers, they went through rounds of turnarounds, expression sheets, and a few just-for-fun illustrations along the way.
Meecho had to hold up from every angle, not just the hero shot on packaging. Turnarounds like this caught proportion issues early, well before they turned into stickers and boxes.
Same treatment for Machi. Getting his silhouette right from behind mattered more than expected, he's the one who ends up turned sideways on merch more often than not.
The Khmer crown went through several passes. Fitting Meecho's usual round face under something this ornate, without it swallowing her expression, took the most iterations of the whole project.
Machi's version leans into his sharper features, the angkor crown with minimal shape doing a lot of work to keep him readable at sticker size.
Not everything had to be angry-mascot energy. This one exists just to prove they like each other, an off-brand moment that ended up becoming one of the most shared pieces of an art.
